How to use the Nokia 6340i as a modem with Cingular Wireless

You will need:

Nokia 6340i cell phone,

DLR-3P serial data cable,

Serial to USB Adapter cord,

Modem driver from Nokia.com,

Cingular Wireless Cell Phone Plan
http://www.cingular.com

I. Call Cingular Wireless and tell them that you would like to add the $3.99
data transfer charge to your account.   You do NOT want the 6.99
Wireless Internet charge, that is something completely different.

II.   Download the modem driver (8 KB) from
http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/software/6340i

[you don't need the pc suite, nor the pc suite guide.]

Save the driver onto a floppy in your A drive.

III.  Connect the cell phone to the DLR-3P; connect
the DLR-3P to the adapter cable; connect the adapter
cable to your computer's USB port.

IV.  Turn on your Cell phone.

V.  Turn on the computer.

Windows will find the adapter cord first, install it
using the cd rom that it comes with.

Windows will find the cell phone (modem) next,
install it using the driver that is on your floppy
in your A drive.   Do not be tempted to use
the driver that windows provides, it will not work.

VI.  Make a new connection using Dial-Up Networking.
Choose the nokia 6340i as the modem, use the phone
number of your ISP.
